16 Days Out

We are 16 days out from getting off the mountain. Last week I had the bearings repacked and found that one tire was defective and we needed new brake pads (22k miles). Have StarLink setup, getting oil change/rear differential fluid change and then the truck and Montana are almost ready. Kayak rack and bike rack will be the last week. We filled with water and started the fridge. Then what happened?



Of course, winter reappeared. We also have a few doctor/dentist appointments mixed in along with packing. So, next week will show a few more updates, hopefully. I had an issue with comments, but I believe that is resolved. Have a great week and I will try to provide an update next week.

I know you have traveled this road before but there is always something new to see.
I was watching a video from someone travelling last year, they said it was a bad mosquito year. Hope fewer bugs for you guys.

On The Road to Alaska

 Well, it was an eventful Monday to start our trip with a great ending.  I thought I left my wallet at the Driver’s License facility. After 2 trips to town, found it on a chair at home. Phewww! It was a gorgeous day to start our Alaskan adventure.  This was the view of home coming back from town. We had everything ready except for my wallet, so once we got that sorted out we were on the road (about two hours late). We met Ron and Rhonda at Laramie. Gorgeous scenery on our way to Lander, Wyoming. Lander City Park is a free campground and we are camped right next to a stream. Tomorrow we are headed to Sinks Canyon. The Popo Agie River disappears here and reappears later.  Here is a photo of our Montana loaded for Alaska.  Below is a photo of our campsite tonight. Not bad for free. StarLink up and using Dish Anywhere on the Firestick. Our technology is working well, so far.

Alaska - The First Week

 If you thought we’d be in Alaska already, sorry but we won’t arrive in the 49th state until June. Our first stop was in Lander, Wyoming. Our main site here to see was the Popo Agie (pronounced Poposha), a Crow Indian word. In the Popo Agie Valley, the river disappears into a cave and reappears 2 hours later and 1/4 mile away into a quiet pool before resuming its roaring journey. However, the Fremont County Museum was a real gem with a $5 entry. We were able to ride our bikes to both of these, but Ron and Rhonda took their truck up to the Sink Canyon.  Then, after a great day, we talked to a police officer as he was driving through the campground. He asked if we saw the elk. We hadn’t, so the four of us jumped in the truck and headed off to see some elk. In addition to a herd of elk, we also saw a beautiful rooster pheasant and some deer.  These are some photos from inside the Fremont museum. They also include outdoor displays and builds. Missing Our Traveling Companions

  Well, this is certainly not the type of post I thought I would be writing on this trip. We were having a great time till we were leaving Seward for Homer. Ron Marlin wasn’t feeling well and went to a walk in clinic in Homer. They did tests and told him he needed to get home as soon as possible. His condition is very serious and we drove them to the airport last Monday. He is currently in the hospital in Arkansas. Rhonda is by his side.  After reviewing all of the options to get their truck and camper home, Ron and Mary Lichtenberg flew up from Omaha and spent some time with us orienting themselves to the truck and camper. They are taking the camper back to Arkansas. When you look up friend in the dictionary, you see Ron and Mary’s picture. Great friends and very giving people. New friends, Terry and Diane Hansen, helped find a camping spot to rest before getting Ron and Rhonda to Anchorage.
